Because safety is of our utmost concern, we have decided to recall our B and S series bikes sold between 2014 and 2016 in order to replace the fender bolts (the things that connect the front fenders to the lowest part of the front fork, which keeps you dry on rainy days).
To be on the safe side we’re asking all owners of our B-Series and S-Series bikes to quickly change the little steel bolts, for plastic ones. In the unlikely event that an object were to get stuck between your front fender and front tire, these plastic screws will break with the impact, instead of jamming the tire. Thereby ensuring your safety.
Simply fill in your contact details here and we’ll send you a set of replacement plastic bolts and full instructions on how to install them. It's really easy. You can complete the repair without assistance. In case you do have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us (see contact details below). Until we’ve sent those plastic bolts to you (we’ll be as fast as we can) and they’ve been installed, we strongly advise you to stop using your VanMoof B series or S series bicycle. We know this is not ideal, but we think it’s always better to be on the safe side.
Many bikes on the market use steel fender bolts and the jamming of the tire due to a blocked fender is a small but known risk to riders. After being contacted by customers experiencing this defect, we investigated the issue and found a solution in using a different material for the fender bolts. We advise you to stop using your VanMoof B-series or S-series bicycle until the front fender assembly has been changed.
Have any questions? Simply contact us at +1 347-227-7477 from 9 a.m. to 17 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or at fenderbolt@vanmoof.com and we'll be sure to help.
As soon as your VanMoof is fitted with the replacement bolts, you should be out of risk and ready to hop on your bike again.
Description: The product at issue is the VanMoof Series B and Series S commuter-style bicycle manufactured between 2015 and 2016. There are believed to be no more than 374 such bicycles in the United States. The serial numbers for the bicycles at issue are from M15C000707 to M15J004115 inclusive.
Incidents: VanMoof received reports of two instances where riders experienced road objects creating an obstruction between the fender and the front wheel. In both instances, the fender remained intact because the stainless steel “fender bolts” connecting the fender to the bicycle did not break off due to the strength of the steel bolts. In 2016, and prior to learning of any problems arising from the use of stainless steel “fender bolts”, VanMoof began to use nylon “fender bolts” for its bicycles for engineering reasons, i.e,. nylon bolts are self-securing.
