Our story

We were founded by two Dutch brothers who had disruption in their blood, invention in their DNA, and industrial design expertise in their pockets.

Born and raised in the Netherlands, they loved getting from A to B on two wheels, but had never found the perfect city bike. Others would have settled for less-than-perfect. Not these two. They started VanMoof, built the perfect city bike from scratch, and took it to the world. Eight years later we’re unlike any other bike company in the world. Here’s why.

Focused on cities, and only cities

If it doesn’t make your A to B more effortless, we don’t do it. No mountain bikes, cargo bikes, or lycra here. Our team of inventors, designers and coders are all focused on one thing - making the best city bike in the world.

Built by a team of restless inventors

Every time we start dreaming of our next bike, or solving our next big problem, we run into the same wall - the parts to make it happen don’t exist.

Rather than wait years for the bike industry to catch up, we just invent the parts ourselves. Today 80% of a VanMoof is made of parts that have been dreamed, designed and produced by us.

It’s no accident that our design teams sit above our stores.

The closer we are to you, the better we’ll understand your needs, the faster we’ll crack your problems, and the more perspectives we’ll stay open to. Settling is never an option. We don’t stop solving, inventing and improving until things hit the production line. By never settling, we realise things other bike companies haven’t even thought of yet.

We want to change the world

And the fastest way to do that is to get more people on bikes. That’s why we’re not just a bike company. We’re reinventing the whole experience, from buying, to repairing, to recovering, so it’s utterly effortless.

Last year we put bike thieves out of business with our revolutionary SmartBike, and redefined what an e-bike should look and ride like, with our secretly superpowered Electrified S.

This year we’re working on a VanMoof that can fix itself, so our riders can do more pedalling, and less repairing.

One effortless A to B at a time

When you buy a VanMoof you’re not just buying a bike.

For starters, you’ll only be able to buy it directly from us, because the closer we are to our riders, the better we can make your experience. It’ll come with its own team of dedicated VanMoof experts we call Bike Doctors, who can repair your bike in person, or help you do it from afar.

Every single part, from the bespoke chain cover to anodized aluminium frame, from the high-powered integrated lights to the anti-theft tracking, are designed to make it totally hassle-free to get from A to B.
