Tax Specialist


VanMoof is a fast-moving bike company set for major growth, but we can only grow with a strong foundation of tax governance, compliance and planning. That’s why we’re looking for a Tax Specialist to help establish and lead our in-house tax advisory function. 

As a Tax Specialist, you’ll report to the Group Tax Manager and work closely across teams and functions to design and build world-class tax processes and practices ready for the digital future. You’ll support VanMoof’s business leaders and stakeholders with rapid market expansion, day-to-day support of our international operations, and strategic initiatives. You will investigate customer needs and product opportunities and translate these into tangible product recommendations.

In this role, you will also have the opportunity to work on exciting group-wide tax and transfer pricing projects and ensure that all legal requirements are met. When required, you will work closely with external advisers and service providers to ensure our products and systems are meeting the highest tax technical and content standards.

As VanMoof continues to grow, so will you and your responsibilities. Our ideal candidate is an experienced professional with international operations and advisory experience on direct and indirect tax matters across multiple jurisdictions, eager to learn and improve within their role. You should have a collaborative, flexible, and persevering mindset, and excellent communication skills.

What you’ll do:

  • You’ll work closely together with the Tax Manager to implement tax policies, strategies and initiatives.

  • You’ll be taking a lead in projects that aim at managing, mitigating and resolving any potential tax risks and opportunities within the group.

  • You’ll partner closely with all internal stakeholders and operating teams to provide clear tax inputs and provide guidance on operational decisions.

  • Together with the Tax Manager, you will support the commercial business and supply chain function, assist with one-off assignments and projects such as setting-up systems and processes to meet tax requirements, or act as a key point of contact to the business in terms of matters such commercial contracts and new business opportunities.

  • You’ll be responsible for monitoring global business initiatives and legislative developments that can have a tax impact on the VanMoof Group.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement and support of the implementation of new regulations in tax related processes and controls.

  • Prepare transfer pricing reports based on the group templates and documentation.

  • You’ll understand the business model within VanMoof and assist in the development and implementation of VanMoof’s tax analysis and models.

  • Take an active part in dialogues with the tax authorities on several topics (e.g. ruling requests, tax returns and audits);

  • Participate in tax training and actively show interest in new tax regulations and changes, but also facilitate internal tax training together with the Group Tax Manager.

What you’ll bring:

  • An academic degree or experience in tax.

  • 4-6 years of experience in a tax environment (in-house or consulting).

  • Solid knowledge of indirect taxes, but also the basics of direct taxation and transfer pricing.

  • A passion for tax technical research, ability to analyze and review statutes, regulations, and case law and provide clear and concise tax advice to the wider business team and make appropriate recommendations,

  • An ability to translate complex tax concepts into easily understandable and fit for purpose procedures/guidelines for the scale-up company.

  • An ability to manage multiple projects and assignments with a high degree of autonomy and accountability for results.

  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently while understanding the importance of elevating questions/concerns promptly.

  • An ability to be collaborative and comfortable dealing with ambiguity, influencing across multiple organizations, and creating effective internal business partnerships.

  • Strong communication and comfortable sharing information formally or informally with various collaborators.

  • A curious, hands-on attitude, and outstanding organizational skills. 

  • Excellent written English and verbal communication skills. Additional languages are a big plus.
