Safety and Compliance Manager


VanMoof is looking for a Safety and Compliance Manager who's eager to take the next step in their career and take charge of VanMoof's product certification and safety. As Compliance and Safety Manager you’ll join the Product Development team to ensure that all VanMoof products are designed, tested and certified to comply with worldwide regulatory requirements. You’ll bring a tech-leader perspective, and a deep working knowledge of regulatory, safety, and compliance for consumer electronics products.

You’ll need to have a strong understanding of the compliance scheme and the processes required to determine relevant compliance requirements. You’ll use this to ensure safety and compliance requirements to enable market access for all VanMoof products in all geographies where VanMoof operates. You must be detail oriented, organized, and have excellent communication skills. You’ll make sure that VanMoof products are fully compliant with all applicable rules, laws, and regulation by managing the compliance process to give expert guidance and take decisions. 

What you’ll do

  • Drive a standardized and structured approach to Compliance and Safety requirements across all VanMoof products, covering all relevant markets where VanMoof is marketing products. 

  • Determine the full set of relevant directives, regulatory requirements and harmonized standards that are applicable to all VanMoof products.

  • Define VanMoof’s full set of internal requirements, processes and controls to ensure that the safety and regulatory requirements are fully met and maintained. Ensure that development teams follow the established processes and lead the DFMEA and PFMEA processes, and capture relevant information in the QMS.

  • Develop and maintain VanMoof’s restricted materials and chemical lists and SOPs to ensure both VanMoof and its suppliers’ compliance with chemical and environmental requirements, including escalation processes in cases of non-compliance.

  • Guide product development to ensure compliance, working with our internal teams and third party service providers during the entire development process, covering all aspects of the products.

  • Work closely with our suppliers/partners to ensure that all material and components used in the manufacturing of our products meet the needed environmental regulations (e.g.ROHS,REACH).

  • Drive the certification process to meet all type approvals and certifications required to ensure conformity and launch products. Manage the relationship with third party labs and notified bodies.

  • Inform all stakeholders actively on the status of projects and all certification and safety  challenges.

  • Build and keep up-to-date complete technical files and declarations required to show complete conformity.

  • Ensure submission of all official documents for final approvals from regulatory bodies.

  • Proactively research any evolution, change to global standards, directives and regulatory requirements and testing procedures. Ensure that updates to the compliance requirements are met in a timely manner.Support the relevant internal teams in the event of queries from regulatory authorities and follow-up on requests.

  • Work closely with the Quality team to monitor field performance of the products and drive in the required updates to ensure safety requirements are met.

  • Establish and maintain safety procedures, including escalation processes in the event of safety incidents involving VanMoof’s products.

What you'll bring

  • A Bachelor's Degree In Engineering or equivalent.

  • At least 10 years of relevant experience, preferably in consumer product safety and compliance experience (e-bike experience is a plus). 

  • Proven experience in building compliance files and submissions to regulatory authorities to achieve compliance requirements in Europe (e.g. CE) and North America (e.g. FCC, IC).

  • Excellent English communication skills.
