Post-summer bike check-up
Summer was long and warm - not just for you, but also for your S6. To make sure your bike is ready for the wet season we recommend giving it some love. Here’s three things to check:
1. Grips
On some S6 bikes, the rubber handlebar grips can loosen after exposure to extreme heat, for example leaving your bike in this year's strong summer sun for a long time, and riding it right after.
Give each grip a gentle twist and push before your ride. If you notice any movement beyond the normal flex, please stop riding and arrange a free grip replacement. Grips adhesion under extreme heat has now been improved. Even if your grips feel fine, you can request a free grip replacement once on your next visit to a partner store.
You can book an appointment at your VanMoof partner store and the grips can be exchanged, based on stock availability, free of charge. Our team is working hard to make sure spare parts are in good availability at our partner stores.
2. Tire pressure
Bikes with good tire pressure are more battery efficient - allowing you to go further - with less risk of flats and rim damage. Low tire pressure leads to more friction between rubber and road, which wears out your tires and makes your bike feel sluggish.
Ideally the tire pressure on your VanMoof should be between 3.0–3.5 bar (45-50 PSI). Many bike shops have free electric pumps with a pressure gauge that you can use to check your current pressure and bring it to the correct value.
3. Brakes
Does your brake lever feel spongy, or come closer to your grip? This might be a sign that it's time to bleed your brakes. This process removes trapped air from the brake lines - allowing the brake fluid to work correctly.
Does your brake feel less reactive? Does it make a weird noise? Go to a partner who can help you add brake fluid or change your brake pads. This kind of quick maintenance keeps you safe and extends the life span of your bike.
Happy riding!
