Our street-smarts just got smarter. The latest VanMoof S3 & X3 now work with the Apple Find My network

Available from today, the latest VanMoof S3 & X3 bikes will work with Apple’s Find My app, which means you can track your ride securely using the vast and global Find My network, made up of hundreds of millions of Apple devices. With the new Items tab in the Find My app, you can locate your bike on a map from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

“We’re ushering the future of cycling into the present day,” says our co-founder Ties Carlier. “In the near future, when bikes are the primary mode of transportation in cities, this will come in handy as it gives riders worldwide peace of mind they’ll be able to swiftly locate their ride.”

Our Head of Experience Design, Shannon E. Thomas digs a little deeper into what the integration of the Find My network means for our riders everywhere.

Thinking rider first

Enabling our bikes with Apple’s Find My network technology has been a dream of ours for a very long time. VanMoof was able to implement this finding capability because of our forward-looking in-house product philosophy and the pre-existing advanced tech of our bikes, allowing us to offer an innovative e-mobility product as part of the Find My network accessory program. There was plenty for us to work on to perfect our one-of-a-kind user experience, ensuring it’s both fiercely accurate and secure.

But with a little elbow grease and some of that VanMoof determination, we came through with something we’re really proud of. Ultimately, what all our teams strive for is to provide the very best experience for our riders. A primary concern for our growing community is being able to locate their bike quickly – whether it’s submerged in a sea of bikes outside the train station, or the night before is simply a little hazy. Our team spotted the potential that Apple’s Find My network could have for riders everywhere, and we quickly got to work to bring it to life. Now that our latest VanMoof S3 & X3 bikes will work with the global Find My network, you’ll be able to find and track your VanMoof more precisely than ever.

But what is it that puts the technology head and shoulders above the rest? The Find My network doesn’t simply use the Bluetooth connection via your phone, but instead it uses a network of hundreds of millions of Apple devices, to locate your bike while utilizing all of the innovative privacy and security protections built in to the Find My network. Now that’s the kind of street-smarts we like to see.

More precise tracking than ever

And that’s not all – alongside our industry-leading security measures like our Peace of Mind guarantee, if your bike ever goes missing, you now have the option to use the Find My app to take action to recover it. You can play a sound in the Find My app to easily locate it when it is nearby, or if it’s further away, you can put your bike in Lost Mode and let the Find My network help track it down. If a lost VanMoof S3 or X3 is located, someone can use the Find My app on any iPhone to identify it. Or you can turn on 'Notify when found,' which will notify you when the Find My network has located your e-bike, then provide that location on a map in the Find My app. Another unique benefit of the Find My network is that you no longer have to be in close proximity to your bike to trigger its sound features, as it’s no longer reliant on a direct Bluetooth connection. Smart, right?

The Apple Find My network is anonymous and uses advanced encryption. This means that no one else – not even Apple or VanMoof – can view the location of your ride.
